Recent Expansion, Relocation, and Growth
The Grand Strand is rated as one of the fastest growing areas in the United States, and current development encompasses a wide range of new businesses. These businesses include entertainment centers, restaurants, motels, golf courses, business and resort centers, and general services.
Entertainment:
The area boasts several entertainment opportunities including the new Hunley
Exhibit, a Titanic Exhibit at the Ripley's Aquarium that recently opened, and
the Children's Museum of South Carolina, that is currently ready to rebuild an
updated exhibit adjacent to the already popular Broadway at the Beach.
Restaurants:
New restaurants that have opened include Charleston Crab House, Sticky Fingers and Fat Tuesday's in Myrtle Beach and California Dreaming in Surfside Beach.
Hotels:
New hotels that have recently opened include Ocean Reef Resort Condos, Atlantica Poindexter Resort, and Sea Island on the Beach. The Grande Dunes Marriot that began inviting in visitors in January 2004. Also, the 251 unit condominium complex at Kingston Plantation called Margate Tower, opened its doors to Myrtle Beach tourists.
Golf Courses:
The most recent golf courses to have opened are the Founder's Club at Pawley's Island, the Grande Dunes Golf Club and the Diamond Back Golf Club, both located in Myrtle Beach.
Businesses:
Several businesses were welcomed into the area over the past year. PWG USA, an international automotive parts group, AvCraft, Integrated Environmental Technologies, Better Brands, and the 84 Lumber Company aid in the diversification of the Myrtle Beach
Metropolitan Area. Other companies that reached maximum capacity and expanded
were New South Lumber Company, Inlet Boat Works, Coastal Carolina University and
the Horry County Solid Waste Authority.
Stores:
Several new retail shops have recently opened in the new Coastal Grande Mall including Belk, Dillard's, American Eagle and Old Navy. The Bass Pro Shops, a hunting and fishing retail outlet, opened in North Myrtle
Beach. The Tanger Outlet Center expanded its operations to incorporate the outlet
center on Highway 501 West.
