This area boasts state-of-the-art theaters, Broadway shows, the nationally recognized Long Bay Symphony, a row of art galleries, and cultural events held every season of the year. These are a few of our area organizations:

The Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild (with approx. 300 members) is dedicated to promoting interest in the visual arts. For over 30 years it has held the annual juried art show at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The Wheelwright Council for the Arts coordinates cultural events at the Wheelwright Auditorium of Coastal Carolina University, including the University's art program. This new state-of-the-art facility seats 800. Programs that have been presented here include The Lion in Winter and Songwriter in the Round.

The Long Bay Symphony performs a full season of concerts, classical, and chamber music. Many symphony members have performed with organizations such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The symphony also has a youth orchestra with approx. 50 members.

The Franklin G. Burroughs and Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum features an art gallery and education
center. The gallery is located in the former Springmaid Villa, with 3,600 square feet of exhibition space. Gallery exhibits include local and national artists.

The Horry County Museum (located in Conway) showcases the history of Horry County from prehistoric times to the present. The museum houses artifacts and local crafts, as well as wildlife displays and area photos. It also offers walking tours of Conway's picturesque historic district.

The Children's Museum of South Carolina, located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, offers children the chance to touch and explore interactive exhibits and programs in a wonderful learning environment.

Theatres: World-class entertainment is available here in almost a dozen theatres offering plays, musicals, comedy, jazz, rock, and an impressive array of annual entertainment. The Palace Theatre, the Carolina Opry, the Alabama Theatre and others host stars like Aretha Franklin, Bill Cosby, and Kenny Rogers. Area theatres provide over 18,000 seats for outstanding entertainment venues throughout the year.
